California nonprofits are working to put an initiative funding immunology research on the November ballot.
The initiative would authorize $8.4 billion of state bonds to support the research – half of which would be required to support developing treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, cancer and heart disease – if 546,651 signatures are collected for it to appear on the ballot.

UCPD is investigating a reported rape that allegedly occurred Sunday on Landfair Avenue.  
The incident took place at a fraternity located on the 600 block of Landfair Avenue, said Jeffrey Chobanian, the captain of UCPD’s operations bureau, in an emailed statement.

Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed a state budget Friday for the 2026-27 fiscal year that included an increase of $350.6 million in funding to the UC. 
The UC would receive $5.3 billion from the state’s general fund, based on the proposal.
