The UC Board of Regents approved the dismissal of a tenured UCLA professor Wednesday.
Priyanga Amarasekare, an ecology and evolutionary biology professor who began at UCLA in 2005, was initially suspended in 2022 for a year without pay by then-Chancellor Gene Block.

UCPD is investigating a reported rape that allegedly occurred Sunday on Landfair Avenue.  
The incident took place at a fraternity located on the 600 block of Landfair Avenue, said Jeffrey Chobanian, the captain of UCPD’s operations bureau, in an emailed statement.

Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed a state budget Friday for the 2026-27 fiscal year that included an increase of $350.6 million in funding to the UC.
