One month removed from taking office as the head coach of the UCLA women’s basketball team, Cori Close announced on Friday the completion of her coaching staff with the hiring of three new assistant coaches.
Tony Newnan, Shannon Perry and Jenny Roulier-Huth will be joining Close on the sidelines next season, replacing Tasha Butts, Tony Perotti and Stacie Terry ““ all three of whom left with former Bruin coach Nikki Caldwell to work at Louisiana State.

By the conclusion of competition Saturday in Gainesville, Fla., the UCLA softball team finds itself still very much alive after downing Jacksonville 12-4 in what proved to be a nightcap contest.
The Bruins (35-18) defeated the Dolphins (44-16) 2-0 in Friday’s opening game of the double elimination-format NCAA Gainesville Regional, only to lose to the No. 4 seed Florida Gators (49-9) 4-2 in their first game today.
That loss forced the rematch against Jacksonville, which had eliminated Bethune-Cookman (33-26) earlier today to earn a chance to face UCLA again.

The UCLA softball team, which began its championship-winning postseason trek around this time one year ago, is heading into the playoffs as an underdog, and it’s no elephant in the outfield.
Just less than three weeks removed from the departure of Nikki Caldwell, former Florida State associate head coach Cori Close has been named the newest head coach of the UCLA women’s basketball team, it was announced Thursday.
