Once again, No. 5-seeded UCLA softball is among the last eight teams standing.
UCLA has reached the first weekend of the Women’s College World Series for the past two years, but each time, it hasn’t advanced to the finals.
UCLA softball has reached the last stop of its regular season campaign: No. 22 Arizona State.
Traveling to Tempe, Arizona, for their final series, the No.10 Bruins (39-13, 13-8 Pac-12) currently are ranked fifth in the Pac-12 – out of contention for the Pac-12 title that the Sun Devils claimed last weekend.
Division I softball consists of 32 conferences, yet the Pac-12 has taken home 23 of the 33 national championship trophies.
“There is no conference that can stand toe-to-toe with the Pac-12,” said coach Kelly Inouye-Perez.
Seasons are comprised of streaks, and UCLA softball is riding a season-long eight-game victory run.
Stanford (18-27, 1-17 Pac-12) joins Cal State Fullerton, California and Cal State Northridge as No.
Fresh off impressive series victories against No. 12 Washington (31-10, 8-7 Pac-12) and No. 4 Oregon (37-4, 10-4), No. 8 UCLA softball was unable to get past unranked Oregon State (21-18, 4-8), splitting the final two games of its three-game set to lose the weekend’s series.
Heading into Pac-12 play, No. 8 UCLA softball was swept immediately.
“Post-Utah series, we made some serious moves, and that is ultimately my job, to find the best lineup that is going to allow this program to succeed,” said coach Kelly Inouye-Perez.
