A common stereotype of scientists is that they are poor at writing.
A quick internet search brings up a Reddit post that proclaims, “90% of scientific writers absolutely suck at writing.”
However, while stereotypes about scientists have long existed, science communication – which focuses on the translation of scientific information to a variety of scientific and nonscientific audiences – has gained more attention in recent years, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The UC Board of Regents, the University’s governing body, gathered at San Francisco Mission Bay from Jan. 23 to 25 for its bimonthly meetings. In teleconferenced and in-person sessions, the board discussed UC athletics, student employment opportunities, academic freedom and the state’s proposed budget.

UCLA’s Latino Policy and Politics Institute launched its Latino Data Hub in October, which provides data on demographic factors that might contribute to inequality in Latino communities in the United States.

The collaboration will launch in 2023, offering career services and courses in high-demand STEM fields – including data analytics, information technology support, project management and computer automation – through the Python programming language and various design program platforms.
