Feb. 5, 2026 10:05 p.m.UCLA is generating a nearly $400 million annual structural budget deficit, according to a Jan. 29 Academic Senate preliminary report.
The report – created by the Academic Senate’s Council on Planning and Budget – said data provided by UCLA administrators showed that the university is projected to run a combined $829.7 million deficit across the 2025 and 2026 fiscal years if it has not taken and does not take any corrective action.

A car crashed into the 99 Ranch Market on Westwood Boulevard on Thursday, killing three people and injuring at least six.
Two blocks of Westwood Boulevard – from Wilkins Avenue to Wellworth Avenue – were completely blocked off as of 1:50 p.m., along with the intersecting block of Rochester Avenue.

Feb. 6, 2026 8:50 a.m.The California Department of Cannabis Control gave UCLA four grants in January totaling $7.3 million for cannabis research.
These grants will fund four research studies that will allow UCLA to develop the science and evidence to help guide public policy related to cannabis availability, safety and accessibility, said Ziva Cooper, a professor-in-residence of psychiatry and behavioral sciences.
