UCPD received notice of a rape that was reported to have occurred early Tuesday morning on the Hill.

The incident occurred inside the victim’s dorm building on the 300 block of De Neve Drive at 4:50 a.m., according to a UCPD Clery Timely Warning. The victim knows the suspect, the alert said. 

The victim did not file a report with UCPD as of Tuesday morning. UCPD declined to provide information about where on the Hill the alleged rape occurred. 

UCLA’s Title IX Office and the Office of Residential Life are responding to the incident by providing the affected parties with resources and informing them of their rights, according to the alert. 

UCPD was notified of the incident by another campus agency, said Richard Mejia, the director of emergency communications and information for the Office of Campus and Community Safety, in an emailed statement. He added that UCPD could not provide additional information about the incident to protect the survivor’s privacy.

“UCPD respects the rights, privacy, and autonomy of survivors of sexual violence, including their decision about whether and when to engage with law enforcement,” Mejia said in the statement. “Should the survivor choose to speak with UCPD at any point, our officers are available to listen, provide information about available options and resources, and support them through the reporting process.”

UCPD shared resources and safety tips in the alert, including information about the Campus Safety Officer Evening Escort Program, which provides escorts to anyone between campus buildings and nearby living areas from dusk to 1 a.m., and Counseling and Psychological Services.

“UCPD shares these safety tips while recognizing that perpetrators, and not the victims or survivors, are solely responsible for their actions,” the alert said.
