UCPD was notified of an alleged sexual battery that occurred at an on-campus residence hall at about 1 a.m. Monday morning.

Both the victim and suspect were students, according to a UCPD Clery Timely Warning alert, and the victim declined to report to UCPD as of Wednesday. The Title IX Office is responding to the incident by providing the affected parties with resources, information about their rights and their options, the alert said.

The Title IX Office investigates incidents of sexual assault, gender discrimination and other violations of the federal gender discrimination law.

Jeffrey Chobanian, the captain of UCPD’s operations bureau, declined to comment on the incident because the victim did not file a report with UCPD.

Chobanian said in an emailed statement students should be aware of their surroundings, travel with trusted friends and use a buddy system to protect themselves and others.

UCPD shared resources in the alert, such as the Campus Assault Resources and Education office, the Campus Safety Officer Evening Escort program – which provides escort services to students, staff and faculty from dusk to 1 a.m. – and the Bruins Safe mobile app, which can be used to access campus safety resources.
