Hollywood’s biggest stars brought their A-game to the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday, turning heads with their fashion choices.

Attendees traded traditional black-tie looks for literal Emmy-inspired ensembles, glamorous gowns and vibrant menswear. The night’s looks showcased the range of red carpet style and gave viewers plenty to talk about.

Here are some looks that caught Daily Bruin Arts contributors’ eyes.

Megan Stalter

Megan Stalter “knows that everything’s camp.”

Whether she’s releasing music, appearing on late-night interviews or greeting fans in pop-star parody costumes at Broadway’s “Oh, Mary!,” the “Hacks” actress is known for fully committing to a bit. The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards – where Stalter was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series – was no exception. Stalter boldly appeared on the red carpet with her bra, shorts, wings and body paint all shining in Emmy gold.

These kinds of red carpet stunts are typical for Stalter, the most notable being at the Critics Choice Awards when she and her “Hacks” co-star Paul W. Downs recreated the matching, orange Chrome Hearts outfits Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner wore to the “Marty Supreme” Los Angeles premiere. While Stalter’s fashion is less about the quality of the clothes and more about the joke being made, there’s always a charm in watching the comedian’s DIY attempts at making the red carpet an entertaining affair. Stalter went all in on her trophy transformation, hoisting a comically sized atom prop around the otherwise formal carpet.

“Hacks” may have only won two Emmys this year, but it had the prettiest Emmy in America on its team.

Law Roach, Givenchy by Sarah Burton

Law Roach is proving that coaches can play, too.

The renowned stylist, Project Runway judge and self-proclaimed “image architect,” best known for his long-term styling collaboration with Zendaya, put his abilities to the test dressing an unlikely subject: himself. His Givenchy look comprised an oversized yellow coat with embroidered flowers over loose white trousers, with his signature long black hair draped over both shoulders. But his accessories were what really caught the light. He sported a pink watch to match a small pink Birkin bag.

Roach is paving the way for a new generation of men on the red carpet who are ditching black tuxedos for more creative, colorful and visually interesting looks. His long coat’s floral embroidery and rich golden yellow color had an especially glamorous appeal. The white pants, however, could have contrasted more with the already lighter-colored coat and accessories. One main takeaway seemed to be his mastery of the sandwich method and the humble brag of a Birkin bag.

Only the Project Runway judge himself could best put men’s styling to the test.

Florence Pugh, Vivienne Westwood

Florence Pugh made her Emmys debut looking like a midsummer night’s dream.

The actress, who presented the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series award alongside Julia Garner, stunned in a lilac Vivienne Westwood gown. The custom dress featured a dazzling train and flowy off-the-shoulder sleeves. Pugh completed her look with a colorful Bulgari necklace and a voluminous updo. Though she was a presenter and not a nominee, Pugh may be back in a different capacity come next year for her starring role in Netflix’s “East of Eden” adaptation.

The gown’s simple silhouette allowed the hazy aesthetic of the sleeves and train to take center stage. Their darker, gauzy material added a touch of drama to an otherwise minimalistic look. The subdued pink and green jewels in Pugh’s necklace paired well with the muted lavender, creating an ethereal effect from top to bottom. Her simple yet chic bun and soft, sunsetlike makeup completed the sense of laid-back elegance.

The acclaimed actress’s lilac look reflects why Hollywood is often called the dream factory.
