Keke Palmer is taking on a new role in Westwood.

The Emmy Award winner announced Thursday morning that she will begin a five-year Artist in Residency program with UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television, titled “From Blocking to Broadcast.” The program will go into effect during the 2026-27 academic year and is in collaboration with KeyTV, which Palmer co-founded in 2021. The digital media network spotlights the work of creatives from historically underrepresented backgrounds in Hollywood and has produced a total of 29 projects since 2022. As part of Palmer’s residency, KeyTV will distribute at least three student projects per year with the goal of giving students hands-on experience with packaging, marketing and digital audience engagement.

“Palmer has built a multifaceted career through tenacity and with the conviction that great artists create space for others to succeed alongside them,” TFT dean Celine Parreñas Shimizu said in a written statement. “That is one of the things we want our students to inhabit as they bring their stories to life – to develop their singular voices while collaborating with and lifting each other up.”

Palmer will also host workshops on pitching and distribution each quarter of the 2026-27 academic year while building skills in business ownership, career sustainability and personal brand development. The following academic year, Palmer will mentor and sponsor a formal studio course within TFT focused on producing original multimedia projects, including video podcasts, television pilots, music videos and musical or dance theater productions. The “True Jackson, VP” star’s partnership will build on TFT’s existing production training program through the course.

The announcement of the program comes at a time when generative artificial intelligence is reshaping how creator-driven media is produced and monetized, which are tools TFT said it hopes to teach students to use “on their own terms,” Parreñas Shimizu said in a written statement. Students in TFT’s Crew Call ambassadorship program will work directly with Palmer during her residency, according to a TFT Instagram post. Palmer previously met with students on campus during a February visit.

“UCLA TFT is a place where artists learn to be in practice, to experience trial and error, to take projects off the page,” Palmer told the Hollywood Reporter. “It is no small feat to pursue higher education, especially at a prestigious institution. I look forward to listening, encouraging and offering them more than one chance to succeed.”
