The sole candidate for the Undergraduate Students Association Council Facilities commissioner vowed to advocate for accessibility at a Thursday debate.
The USA Elections Board and the Daily Bruin co-hosted a series of debates between candidates in the upcoming USAC election. Paige Zwerner, a third-year communication and political science student, is running unopposed to be Facilities commissioner.
Zwerner said during the debate that she implemented a reduced course-load program at UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara. She added that she is working toward expanding the program to UCLA.
Zwerner said she believes that accessibility across campus is important. She added that it is important to speak with individual students and student organizations to understand people’s needs.
“I’m incredibly excited to represent you all and every student here on campus,” Zwerner said. “I highly encourage everyone to get involved in disability justice advocacy, environmental advocacy and making sure that the spaces you’re in are inclusive to all.”
Zwerner also hopes to work with UCLA to improve the SafeRide app for people who use the Bruin Access shuttle – a free service for students with physical disabilities – according to her platform statement.
“As a disabled student, I am incredibly passionate about the work that the Facilities Commission does,” Zwerner said at the debate.
Students can vote in the election on MyUCLA starting May 8 at 8 a.m. until May 15 at noon.
