The sole candidate for the Undergraduate Students Association Council’s Campus Events commissioner pledged to make the office’s programming more accessible at a Thursday debate.
The USA Elections Board and the Daily Bruin co-hosted a series of debates between candidates in the upcoming USAC election. One candidate, Salem Walsh, is running to be Campus Events commissioner.
Walsh, a third-year art history and applied linguistics student, said during the debate that she has already compiled a team for Bruin Bash and started planning the event. She added she wants to secure sponsorships and use the office’s budget wisely to secure famous artists for the annual Welcome Week concert.
Walsh said she would prioritize the size, rather than the frequency, of events. She added that she wants to solicit feedback from students on the events, speakers and guests they are interested in.
Walsh said in her platform statement that she wants CEC venues to be accessible. She also hopes to prioritize accessibility when posting on social media, according to her platform statement.
“It is of the utmost importance to keep in mind the diverse perspectives that make up our Bruin community – planning events that not only everybody wants to come to, but are widely accessible for every Bruin at UCLA,” Walsh said.
Students can vote in the election on MyUCLA starting May 8 at 8 a.m. until May 15 at noon.
