The sole candidate for the Undergraduate Students Association Council Community Service commissioner pledged to be transparent and make service opportunities more accessible during a Wednesday debate. 

The USA Elections Board and the Daily Bruin co-hosted a series of debates between candidates in the upcoming USAC election. Maya Gheewala, who currently serves as a CSC coalition director, is running unopposed. 

Gheewala, a third-year public affairs and statistics and data science student, said she aims to ensure every student can participate in service opportunities by collaborating with leaders from UCLA New Student and Transition Programs and Residential Life. 

Gheewala also hopes to promote service opportunities through orientation sessions and residential assistant events, according to her platform statement.

She said during the debate that she aims to create clearer guidelines for the allocation of CSC funding to service organizations on campus.

“With my three years of experience in the Community Service Commission, I’ve seen how the service landscape at UCLA operates,” Gheewala said during the debate. “I believe that the role of Community Service commissioner is to represent the voices of students engaged in community service and to promote a culture of service on campus.”

Students can vote in the election on MyUCLA starting May 8 at 8 a.m. until May 15 at noon.
