This spring, as the season comes into bloom, so does the big screen – bursting with a fresh slate of films ready to make their mark.

With longer days and a renewed sense of energy in the air, it’s the perfect moment to settle into something new at the movies. From highly anticipated concert flicks to bold cinematic action films, this lineup offers a little bit of everything.

“Mother Mary” (A24)

This spring will serve up the rebirth of a pop icon.

As celebrity deification continues its hold on culture, Anne Hathaway – who will lead two major film releases this season – stars as the titular character of “Mother Mary.” Hathaway’s character, a music diva preparing for her return to the stage, draws inspiration from the personas of “Reputation”-era Taylor Swift and avant-garde Lady Gaga. Set to release in theaters April 17, the hypnotic, psychoerotic thriller follows Mary through enshrined stadium concerts and a volatile reunion with her former best friend and fashion designer, Sam, played by Michaela Coel.

Following the widespread success of “KPop Demon Hunters” and Charli xcx’s “The Moment,” the upcoming pop thriller promises to deliver audiences yet another vivid blend of film and contemporary music. Director David Lowery has enlisted the music powerhouses Jack Antonoff, FKA twigs and Charli xcx to produce the film’s original soundtrack, with twigs also appearing on screen as the character Imogen. “Mother Mary” will offer a look and listen into Hathaway’s own personal reinvention as she has released debut singles as Mary. In particular, “Burial” was released March 5, followed by “My Mouth Is Lonely For You” on April 1.

With its musical ambition and divine intensity, “Mother Mary” will take a stand at the altar of pop stardom.

As declared by its trailer: “A sequel? For spring? Ground-breaking.”

While a sequel might not be the most original addition to the upcoming slate of spring films, the wait is nearly over for fashion aficionados and fans to watch “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” The original iconic 2006 comedy – which scored two Oscar nominations, grossed more than $326 million at the global box office and has produced countless hilarious quotes – is receiving a follow-up complete with the cast that made the first film such a success. On May 1, the “Runway” editor in chief Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and her former assistant Andrea Sachs (Anne Hathaway) will both be back on the big screen alongside colleagues Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt) and Nigel Kipling (Stanley Tucci).

The first film was an adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 bestselling novel of the same title. Although specific details about the new film’s plot remain limited, it appears that Hathaway’s character is set to return to work at “Runway” despite leaving the magazine at the end of “The Devil Wears Prada.” Notably, the resumes of the principal cast have continued to flourish. In the two decades since the first film, Streep won her third Academy Award and Hathaway won her first, with co-stars Blunt and Tucci each receiving their first Oscar nominations as well.

It’s too soon to tell if “that’s all” for the franchise, but “The Devil Wears Prada 2” signals an exciting enterprise for one of the best comedies of the 2000s.

“Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D)” (Paramount Pictures)

This spring, Billie Eilish fans can attend her concert without a Ticketmaster war.

The concert film “Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D)” will arrive in theaters May 8. Co-directed by Eilish and James Cameron, who hold five Academy Awards between them, the movie was filmed over the course of the pop star’s four sold-out performances at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena last July. Eilish’s world tour ran from September 2024 to November 2025 in support of her third studio album “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT,” which earned the artist her tenth Grammy this February.

Cameron’s expertise in 3D filmmaking, which helped bring his renowned “Avatar” franchise to life, will be used to accentuate Eilish’s visually intricate concert for the big screen. In addition to spotlighting the setlist’s biggest hits, the film’s trailer includes more personal moments with Eilish as she prepares for the performances backstage.

All of this anticipation ensures movie tickets will sell faster than you can say “Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D).”

“In the Grey” (Black Bear)

This spring, action fans should brace for a mission that operates far outside the lines.

The thriller “In the Grey” is set to hit theaters May 15. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who has also worked on projects such as “Sherlock Holmes” (2009) and “The Gentleman (2019), the film follows a covert extraction team tasked with recovering a billion-dollar fortune stolen by a vicious tycoon. The movie stars British actor Henry Cavill, Oscar-nominated Jake Gyllenhaal and singer-actress Eiza González, reuniting Ritchie with the high-stakes ensemble that has defined his recent action output.

Ritchie’s signature style – slick dialogue, kinetic pacing and morally ambiguous characters – is on full display in the film’s trailer, released March 9, which teases explosive set pieces alongside moments of dry humor and sharp tension. The globe-trotting narrative promises a blend of espionage and brute-force action, with each character operating in the murky space between hero and mercenary.

Audiences should be prepared to operate “In the Grey” this May.

“Disclosure Day” (Universal Studios)

This spring, aliens are landing on the big screen via “Disclosure Day.”

Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg will make his long-awaited return to the science-fiction genre June 12. Following his divisive “Ready Player One” adaptation in 2018, Spielberg took a few years to finally bring to life his version of “West Side Story” (2021), before co-writing and directing a semi-autobiographical film about his childhood with “The Fabelmans” (2022). Spielberg has seen far more success with critics than at the box office in recent years, but despite this, he is now back to making the big blockbusters he is famous for.

While the plot of “Disclosure Day” remains largely under wraps, the icon in the director’s chair and the star-studded cast he has assembled instill faith that his break from sci-fi will have been worth the wait. While Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson and Josh O’Connor may be newcomers to Steven Spielberg’s cinematic universe, aliens certainly are not, and there is no telling what Spielberg’s got in store for them this time.

All will be disclosed on “Disclosure Day,” and you won’t want to miss it.
