Charli xcx’s mockumentary is shaping up to be the moment.

Directed by Aidan Zamiri, “The Moment” will hit theaters Jan. 30, following its premier at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 23. Zamiri’s directorial debut centers on Charli xcx as a rising hyper-pop star experiencing the newfound pressures of fame and the music industry while preparing for her first arena tour. The star-studded cast of the film also includes actors Alexander Skarsgard, Rachel Sennott and Kylie Jenner.

“The Moment” is a collaboration between Zamiri, Charli xcx and co-writer Bertie Brandes. The visionary singer rose to her current widespread fame with the release of her sixth studio album, “brat,” in summer 2024. According to the Sundance website, Charli xcx told Zamiri she wanted to create a film inspired by her experiences with stardom and the industry. Charli xcx and Zamiri have worked together previously, as Zamiri directed Charli xcx’s music video for the song “360,” which has over 37 million views on YouTube. Charli xcx stars in “The Moment” as a played-up version of herself, as the film satirizes the singer’s life during the album’s release.

Featuring irony, aestheticism and cultural reflection, “The Moment” promises to be monumental for diehard fans and newcomers alike.

“Wuthering Heights” (Warner Bros. Pictures)

This Valentine’s Day, “Wuthering Heights” is ditching roses for ruin.

Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” storms into theaters Feb. 13 and will reimagine author Emily Brontë’s (1847) classic gothic romance. From Warner Bros. Pictures, the film is set to star Academy Award and BAFTA nominee Margot Robbie opposite BAFTA nominee Jacob Elordi. The project also features Oscar-nominee Hong Chau, BAFTA winner Martin Clunes and Shazad Latif, among others. Written and directed by Fennell, whose work includes the films “Promising Young Woman” and “Saltburn,” the story follows Brontë’s characters Catherine Earnshaw (Robbie) and Heathcliff (Elordi) in a tale of passion, lust and madness.

Behind the ethereal scenes, frequent Fennell collaborators crafted the film’s heightened visual aesthetic, including work from cinematographer Linus Sandgren from “La La Land” and “Saltburn,” as well as costume designer Jacqueline Durran, known for her work in “Little Women” and “Barbie.” With the soundtrack adding a contemporary edge, original songs by Charli xcx suggest yet another departure from traditional period adaptations.

Rather than soothing, “Wuthering Heights” opts to unsettle by blurring the boundary between love and obsession.

“How to Make a Killing” (A24)

A24’s latest film won’t exactly be fun for the whole family.

Written and directed by John Patton Ford, “How to Make a Killing” is set to release in theaters nationwide Feb. 20. The comedy thriller stars Glen Powell as Becket Redfellow, a man disowned by his wealthy family at birth but entitled to a hefty inheritance of $28 billion. He sets out to kill the seven relatives who stand in the way of his fortune, an ensemble which includes actors Topher Grace, Ed Harris and Zach Woods. Rounding out the cast is Margaret Qualley as childhood friend Julia, who appears to become involved in Becket’s risky scheme in the film’s enticing trailer, released in November.

Just like Becket’s master plan, “How to Make a Killing” has spent some time in development, with the screenplay initially earning attention in 2014, titled “Rothchild” at the time. A few years later, plans fell through for production under a different director with Shia LaBeouf in the leading role. However, with extreme star power and a suspenseful storyline, this winter’s release is sure to be worth the wait.

Becket is after billions, but a ticket to watch his journey might be priceless.

“The Bride!” (Warner Bros. Pictures)

The latest wave of “Frankenstein” reimaginings is set to continue with “The Bride!”

The second feature film from Oscar-nominated writer-director Maggie Gyllenhaal will stomp into theaters March 6, arriving five years after 2021’s family drama, “The Lost Daughter.” Inspired by both Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel “Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus” and the 1935 film “Bride of Frankenstein,” this tale is set to depict what happens when Frankenstein’s monster actually receives a female companion. Unlike the novel, the plot for this dark comedy flick will be centered in the underbelly of 1930s Chicago

The film’s principal cast includes a number of Oscar-winning and nominated actors, with Oscar winner Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s monster and Oscar nominee Jessie Buckley as the titular bride. Five-time nominee Annette Bening will appear as Dr. Euphronius, the character responsible for giving life to the bride, and Oscar winner Penélope Cruz will be featured as a character named Myrna.

With Gyllenhaal behind the camera and a cast of veteran talents, “The Bride!” promises a marriage of provocative storytelling and powerful Hollywood entertainment.

“Project Hail Mary” (MGM)

After watching “Project Hail Mary,” audiences will no longer be earthbound this winter.

Adapted from Andy Weir’s 2021 science fiction novel of the same name, “Project Hail Mary” will take off in theaters Mar. 20. The film follows schoolteacher-turned-astronaut Ryland Grace as he recovers his missing memories from amnesia aboard a spaceship adrift in the cosmos. Directorial duo Phil Lord and Chistopher Miller bring to life the story of scientific investigation and survivalist grit, with Ryan Gosling taking on the lead role of Grace.

Fans of Weir may find “Project Hail Mary” similar to his previous sci-fi survivalist hit, “The Martian,” which was adapted into film in 2015 Although “Project Hail Mary” delves into its fair share of isolation and hard science, it differs from “The Martian” in its focus on curiosity and heartfelt friendship, resulting in a moving story that interrogates the limits of human ingenuity. As seen in trailers, this friendship is primarily between Gosling’s character and a sentient alien creature that finds his ship. The actor’s performance in this film will add on to his previous sci-fi credentials in successes “Blade Runner 2049” and “First Man.”

Strap in for the journey, as “Project Hail Mary” is sure to be out of this world.
