FINNEAS

FINNEAS displayed his solo talent at Outside Lands with a powerful set Sunday afternoon.

The producer and singer, best known for his work on his sister Billie Eilish’s music, performed a beautiful 50-minute set, featuring his own music and several songs from “The Dream,” his upcoming album with Ashe as The Favors. FINNEAS balanced out his setlist exceptionally well, using songs like “Lotus Eater” for a fun, upbeat opening, while slower, more emotional songs like “I Lost a Friend” highlighted his incredibly powerful voice. The singer kept his audience consistently interested by frequently switching the pacing of his set, rotating between upbeat and mellow songs throughout.

FINNEAS’s discography highlights the singer’s incredibly thoughtful writing that is imbued with deep emotion; listeners could feel his pain in “I Lost a Friend,” as well as his intense longing in his iconic duet “Till Forever Falls Apart.” Despite having a showtime early in the day, FINNEAS managed to wrangle a strong crowd that was singing along passionately for him the entire time.

FINNEAS gave festival goers the perfect set to start their final day of Outside Lands.

Bleachers

Bleachers took fans on a “Rollercoaster” of a show.

The rock band, led by producer Jack Antonoff, gave the Outside Lands crowd an incredibly fun set at Lands End stage. From its opening songs “I Am Right On Time” and “Modern Girl,” fans were immediately jumping around and waving their hands along to the infectious beats Bleachers was playing. The setlist kept the energy high throughout, with banging saxophone solos in numerous songs and even a surprise appearance from Antonoff’s father, Rick Antonoff, for “How Dare You Want More.” Each song Bleachers performed only made the crowd more vivacious, and the band absorbed enthusiasm from the crowd, putting on the best show they could.

Bleachers consistently kept the crowd involved in its performance – from Antonoff stopping to sign a fan’s potato to numerous requests from the band for fans to crowdsurf – and never failed to ensure that every person listening to their set was dancing along and having fun. The constant calls for fan interaction and silly antics with the crowd made the giant venue feel like an intimate performance.

With unbeatable energy, Bleachers certainly left fans wanting more.

Glass Animals

Glass Animals took fans to “The Other Side of Paradise” with an absolutely electric performance.

The indie rock band left everything on the stage in their hour-long set, which featured several of their greatest hits and some new songs. The band opened with funky, techno songs like “Life Itself” and “Space Ghost Coast To Coast,” which perfectly encapsulated the alternative sound Glass Animals has refined over the years. Their set also gave attention to specific strengths of the band; “Creatures in Heaven” allowed lead singer Dave Bayley to showcase his incredibly strong vocals, while “Pork Soda” had a high-energy guitar solo for guitarist Drew MacFarlane. Additionally, Glass Animals performed their latest single, “Vampire Bat,” which fit in well with the other cheery songs the band picked.

The band’s techno sound was a nice shakeup from the other indie artists that had performed on the stage earlier that day. Glass Animals also closed out with their classic “Heat Waves,” which carried an intense energy throughout the crowd as fans screamed along to the band’s most-streamed song. The rock group also incorporated fun visuals into their set to elevate their performance, such as fun shape animations throughout various songs and a video game introduction for “Tokyo Drifting.”

Glass Animals made sure festivalgoers would “Take A Slice” of their music in the future by charming them with an energetic performance.

Hozier

Hozier unearthed his best songs to put on an unreal headlining set for the final day of Outside Lands.

The Irish singer-songwriter performed a medley of his greatest hits, mixing slower, intimate songs with his most powerful ballads to create a set that left the entire audience enraptured. Hozier flowed smoothly from intense songs like his opener “Nobody’s Soldier” to quieter pieces such as “Francesca,” giving the crowd moments of rest and peace between bigger, high-energy songs. The singer also took to a smaller stage nestled within the crowd to perform acoustic versions of “Cherry Wine” and “Unknown/Nth.” Hozier’s setlist highlighted the true power of his voice; he moved easily between large belts of notes during “Would That I” to a tender, vulnerable voice in “Like Real People Do.” He continued on to play some of his most popular songs, with “Too Sweet” and “Take Me to Church” drawing massive reactions from the entire crowd.

Hozier used his production to elevate his set to the next level. He featured 6 smaller screens that dropped down from the ceiling to flash specific visuals for certain songs. The artist also used his time on the stage to bring attention to political issues close to his heart. He included a flashing sign that showcased the rise of global military spending during “Eat Your Young” and also gave a touching speech before “Nina Cried Power” that implored listeners to channel their empathy and use their right to vote to stand up for peace and unity. Hozier spoke from the heart and gave his true thoughts to the crowd, which coupled perfectly with his vulnerable yet powerful voice.

Hozier’s intimate but memorable performance was the perfect way to close out a weekend of incredible music at Golden Gate Park.
