UCLA men’s basketball sophomore guard Sebastian Mack entered the transfer portal Saturday afternoon, according to 247Sports.

A sixth man for the Bruins this season, Mack was often hailed for providing a spark off the bench when coach Mick Cronin’s squad was starved of offensive momentum. His “hero ball” play style manifested itself when his team needed it most, perhaps most memorably when Mack’s 3-pointer with 68 seconds left on the clock against USC helped UCLA seal a regular-season victory over its longtime foes.

During his freshman campaign, Mack posted 12.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. But after work from Cronin in the transfer portal through last year’s offseason, Mack’s role faded, and he finished the 2024-2025 season with 9.6 points a contest alongside 2.1 rebounds and 0.9 steals.

While Mack’s relentless play injected life into the Bruin backcourt, he struggled with consistency. During the Bruins’ two-game NCAA Tournament run, Mack recorded zero and four points in the first and second game, respectively, shooting a combined 16.7% from the field and 0% from deep.

Cronin – who dubbed Mack his “assistant coach” – will have a fairly new backcourt lineup after Mack’s and former junior guard Dylan Andrews’ departures this week.

Despite the two losses, the Bruins have much to look forward to, as Cronin and his staff appear to be reconstructing their roster.

Former New Mexico guard and 2024-2025 Mountain West Player of the Year Donovan Dent committed to UCLA – which missed out on him out of high school because of an early deal with Dylan Andrews – returning to his Southern California roots.

Dent will join forces with a newer crop of Bruins – freshman guard Trent Perry and junior guard Skyy Clark, who played their first years in Westwood this past season.

And with two former McDonald’s All-Americans set to welcome the potential All-American, Cronin’s backcourt overhaul could be decisive in returning to the Sweet 16 – and potentially further – next season.
