Television’s hottest releases are here to warm up the season this winter.
As the weather cools, viewers can bundle up with some of the most highly anticipated sequels and spinoffs hitting screens this season. From Emmy-winning dramedies to riveting thrillers, there is a show for every taste to make the long winter nights more entertaining.
Read on for the Daily Bruin’s sizzling picks to keep the cold at bay.
“XO, Kitty” season 2 (Netflix)
January is sure to be brimming with hugs and kisses.
“XO, Kitty” is returning Jan. 16 for season 2, bringing back its Seoul-searching theatrics to Netflix. The “To All the Boys” universe spinoff left off with quirky protagonist Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) expelled from the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS), grappling with her sexuality, her complicated love life and her mother’s mysterious past. Season 2 sees Kitty gracing KISS’ steps once more, determined to stay buried in books rather than drama. However, when a letter uncovering her mother’s history arrives, Kitty must rush to unravel the past and understand her own truth.
The show lives up to its K-drama influence, with swoon-worthy romantic moments and slow-burn love stories. Despite Kitty’s sworn celibacy, audiences can expect grand gestures, shocking twists and several new surprise faces, including the familiar face of Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo), Kitty’s older sister’s boyfriend and beloved “To All the Boys” lead. Showrunner Jessica O’Toole rhapsodized over Anna and Noah’s palpable love for each other on and off screen, detailing Kavinsky’s presence as crucial for Kitty’s journey – a memento of her past as she trudges into her tumultuous future.
From wholesome moments to comically overdramatic cliffhangers, “XO, Kitty” is bound to have audiences begging for season 3.

“The White Lotus” season 3 (HBO)
“The White Lotus” is checking in for another season this winter.
The paradisiacal dramedy is making its highly anticipated return to Max on Feb. 16, following the success of its five-time Emmy-winning second season. Heading east from season two’s Sicily resort, the anthology’s third installment lands in Thailand, bringing its signature dystopian twist to the idyllic coastal destination. With a cast of predominantly newcomers, including Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey and Walton Goggins, the latest entry promises a fresh cohort of eclectic guests and resort employees who are sure to bring character and cynicism to screens.
Reprising her role as spa manager Belinda Lindsey from season one, Natasha Rothwell is returning to the resort, making her only the second cast member to appear in two seasons after Jennifer Coolidge. The remaining cast members resemble a multigenerational assortment of guests, exploring new themes of spirituality, death and the cultural dissonance between tourists and Thai locals.
While “The White Lotus” may seem like paradise, season 3 is sure to be far from black and white.

“Suits: L.A.” (NBC)
“Suits: L.A.” is making its case to be the winter’s most anticipated show.
The legal drama and spinoff of the hit series “Suits” will launch its first season on NBC starting Feb. 23. “Suits: L.A.” is another spinoff of the original “Suits” – which ran for nine seasons from 2011 to 2019 – following the one-season show “Pearson” in 2019. Rather than taking audiences inside a corporate law firm in New York City, “Suits: L.A.” is set to follow the employees of a Los Angeles firm specializing in entertainment and criminal law.
Stephen Amell will star as Ted Black, a former New York prosecutor and the firm’s leader. Amell will be joined by Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis and Bryan Greenberg in other lead roles for the 10-episode season. Of the cast that made the original “Suits” franchise a 2010s television mainstay, Gabriel Macht is confirmed to return as Harvey Specter in multiple episodes.
If the show replicates its predecessor’s addictive formula, “Suits: L.A.” seems destined to win even more viewers than trials.

“Daredevil: Born Again” (Disney+)
The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is reincarnated in “Daredevil: Born Again.”
After the Emmy-nominated Netflix series was canceled in 2018, the celebrated show returns March 4 on Disney+ under the new title, “Daredevil: Born Again.” Back in Hell’s Kitchen, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) reunites with old friends and familiar foes. With Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) running for mayor, Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) will do everything within the law to bring him down. Outside of the law, Daredevil teams up with The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) to protect the streets from Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) and the antagonistic artist, Muse.
The executives at Marvel Studios saved this show from delivering a severely inferior final product when compared to its Netflix counterpart. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt initially wasn’t going to suit up until episode 4, beloved side characters would not return and the gritty tone of the Netflix series wouldn’t either. However, after a complete creative overhaul, fans rejoice that “Born Again” is born again. With the return of the primary supporting cast, the series looks to be a direct continuation of what came before. Making all of these developments more exciting is the fact that Cox said the show will be even darker than its previous interpretation.
With all of the work that went into crafting a worthy return of this fan-favorite character, it’s finally time to let the Devil’s reign begin.

“Common Side Effects” (Adult Swim)
Adult Swim’s newest animated show is here to cure its viewers this winter.
Green Street Picture’s newest adult animation, “Common Side Effects,” premieres on Adult Swim on Feb. 2. The show follows Marshall (Dave King) and Frances (Emily Pendergast), who are working to protect Marshall’s newest discovery of a mushroom that can cure almost any illness from Reutical Pharmaceuticals. Reutical aims to commercialize and profit off Marshall’s findings, while Marshall himself wants to use it to change the face of health care. In order for Marshall to achieve his goals, however, he must stand up to Reutical’s villainous CEO.
Created by Joe Bennett and Steve Hely, “Common Side Effects” aims to question the way humanity approaches health care and discoveries like Marshall’s. Hely also created the acclaimed animated show “Scavengers Reign,” which premiered on Max in 2023 and received critical acclaim for its animation style and unique world building. Animation’s freshest dramedy will surely offer something for every viewer to enjoy.
A gripping new sci-fi drama that raises profound questions about the pharmaceutical industry, “Common Side Effects” isn’t going to be a tough pill to swallow this winter.
