The winds of change this fall are coming with new additions to listeners’ playlists.

A collection of alt-pop stars-in-the-making have released new projects recently that are ready for fans’ consumption, while other artists infuse their versions of dance music into the increasingly chilly fall evenings. There is no shortage of euphonious songs to enjoy alongside the sounds of rustling leaves as they fall from the trees.

Keep reading to uncover several artists the Daily Bruin is sure to watch long after this autumn has passed.

Alfie Templeman

Alfie Templeman’s grooves – constructed by his ability to play 11 instruments – are on their way to garnering global recognition.

The English singer-songwriter was greatly inspired by his musically talented family. He taught himself to play his father’s left-handed guitar upside down, demonstrating his experimentation with music. From local networks near his hometown of Carlton, North Bedfordshire, to BBC Radio playlisting his music, the artist’s popularity grew quickly, leading to performances at major UK festivals such as Glastonbury.

Templeman is now on tour promoting his latest album “Radiosoul,” released this June, which involves eccentric tunes and funky rhythms. The rainbow sound waves running through Templeman’s ears illustrated on the album cover provide a vibrant energy, like the upbeat instrumentals of the music. While the songs are feel-good jams, many – like the track “Vultures” – have emotional lyrics about dealing with anxiety and growing up. Templeman frequently shares his experiences with depression on social media, raising awareness about the importance of mental health and reducing the stigma that surrounds it.

If “This Is Just The Beginning,” the psychedelic, electric tunes Alfie Templeman crafts will continue to excite fans.

Dora Jar

The temperature may be cooling down, but Dora Jar is still on fire.

Since the release of her debut EP “3 Songs” in 2021, the California singer-songwriter has proven herself to be a shooting star within the alternative pop scene. Jar’s broad range of musical influences – from Stephen Sondheim to Outkast – have amalgamated to construct her distinct experimental sound with elements from numerous genres. Her airy vocals and whimsical production have garnered praise from renowned artists such as Elton John and Billie Eilish early in her career, leading to her opening for the latter’s “Happier Than Ever” world tour in 2022.

On Sept. 13, Jar unveiled her first full-length album, “No Way To Relax When You Are On Fire” – a 13-track journey of poetic introspection backed by surrealist instrumentals. Produced alongside The 1975’s George Daniel and Dominic Fike-collaborator Henry Kwapis, the LP was described by Jar as “a machine that reinvents the imagination.” Supporting the album on her “Behind The Curtain Tour” of North America, Jar is sure to dazzle audiences with her avant-garde stage presence, including on her stop at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre later this month.

With her unabashed expression, Dora Jar’s starpower is sure to “Multiply” this fall.

eaJ

Though the name sounds novel, eaJ is not a new face in the music scene.

Jae Park – who performs mononymously as eaJ – is a Korean-American singer-songwriter hailing from Cerritos, California. Park first made his debut in 2015 as a vocalist and lead guitarist of the South Korean rock band DAY6 and spent more than six years in the Korean music scene before departing from the band in 2021. His career as eaJ unofficially began in 2020 with a personal project of the same name, for which Park uploaded one- to two-minute recordings on YouTube – garnering millions of views – and SoundCloud. Since his first official single “Car Crash” in April 2022, eaJ has dabbled with a variety of genres, from R&B to lo-fi to alternative pop, making his music enjoyable for a diverse group of listeners.

Less than a month ago, eaJ released his fourth EP “when the rain stopped following me,” which features tracks that capture the emotions he felt after leaving DAY6. Before the official release of the EP, Park set off on a world tour to perform his new songs in front of fans. Since completing the Asia leg in September, Park has been on the road for the next queue of performances of the tour, including the opening acts for Imagine Dragons’ “LOOM WORLD TOUR.”

Merging genuine stories with his versatile musicianship, eaJ is bound to bring joy and comfort to many with his music – rain or shine.

Sarah Kinsley

Sarah Kinsley is bringing “Sublime” sounds to the singer-songwriter scene.

The Chinese-American musician released her debut album “Escaper,” which was created with Grammy-winning producer John Congleton, on Sept. 6. She has since embarked on an international tour in promotion of the 12-track project, which stopped at West Hollywood’s Troubadour for two shows last month. Threading together alt-pop sounds reminiscent of Lorde and Maggie Rogers, Kinsley’s music touches upon themes about the transition to adulthood while also drawing inspiration from legends such as the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and Madonna.

Born in Mountain View, California, Kinsley grew up in Connecticut and later relocated to New York City to study music theory at Columbia University. The 24-year-old said it was her parents’ decision to expose her to classical music that prompted her early passions as an artist, and she is a classically-trained pianist. Kinsley’s emphasis on production is a hallmark of her artistic approach, as she has spoken often about the statistic that only two percent of music producers are women, and as a result, she has produced the majority of her music herself.

With such strong influences, Kinsley is sure to ascend to new “Realms” with her burgeoning career.
