Man arrested for North Village apartment peeping incidents

University police arrested a man late last week in connection with a series of alleged peepings into Kelton Avenue apartments.
Christopher Michael Mendicino, 46, was arrested at UCPD headquarters Friday morning on a charge of peeking into an inhabited building, which is a misdemeanor. He was released about two hours later on $10,000 bail.
“We do believe that the individual we arrested is responsible for a number of the peepings on Kelton,” said Nancy Greenstein, a UCPD spokeswoman.
Mendicino, who is from Los Angeles, was also arrested by UCPD in 2007 for probable cause burglary after officers saw him peering into an apartment on Ophir Drive and trying to open its door.
Students have reported several other peepings to UCPD in recent months.
UCPD is still searching for a man who officials say peered into apartments on Roebling and Kelton Avenues several times in late January and March. Police describe the man as about 30 years old, black and between 5-feet-10-inches and 6-feet tall, with a thin build.
In April, students reported a man peering into women’s shower stalls in Sproul Hall. The man was described as white, 35 to 40 years old, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9, with a stocky build, blond buzzed hair, blue eyes and wrinkles on his forehead.
Greenstein said police do not believe Mendicino was involved in the Sproul Hall peeping. No arrests have been made in connection with the recent incident.
In March, UCPD increased their patrol presence in the North Village area, including officers on foot and on bikes, in response to increased calls about peering incidents.
The case is still under investigation.
