Increased tensions between China and Japan in recent weeks have
greatly influenced international relations across the world and
have impacted members of the UCLA community.
The dispute between the two countries has resulted partly from
China’s anger over Japan’s aggression in Asia during
World War II.
Hundreds of people gathered Saturday night in Ackerman Grand
Ballroom to celebrate Palestinian culture and heritage.
The third annual Palestinian Culture Night featured speakers,
music performances, dances, an art exhibit and displays of

Over 100 students and faculty members gathered in Ackerman
Thursday to welcome U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John M. Evans to
UCLA.
People sat in chairs, stood and even sat on the ground during
the hour and a half discussion to hear Evans’ report from
Armenia and take part in the afternoon’s open forum.

Confusion surrounding the outcome of Proposition 72 ““
which would have forced California businesses with 50 or more
employees to provide health insurance for their workers ““ was
finally put to rest Wednesday when state election officials
declared the proposition defeated.
The rapidly deteriorating health of Palestinian leader Yasser
Arafat has provoked mixed reactions from both sides of the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Both groups have expressed concern as
well as hope regarding future relations within the region in the
event of Arafat’s death.
