When the top-ranked UCLA women’s water polo team squares
off against fifth-ranked Long Beach State this afternoon at Sunset
Canyon Recreation Center, it will signify the final home game for
one of collegiate women’s water polo’s most celebrated
players.
With the start of the postseason less than a month away, UCLA
women’s water polo coach Adam Krikorian acknowledged that he
is concerned about his team’s state of mind, despite a pair
of victories over UC Irvine, 14-4, and Arizona State, 12-0, this
past Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
Few opposing coaches will admit it, but UCLA coach Adam
Krikorian believes he knows exactly what they’re thinking. He
realizes there may be envy among other coaches of the surplus of
talent UCLA has at its disposal every time the Bruins jump in the
pool.
It’s a friendly rivalry in the truest sense.
Cal State Northridge women’s water polo coach Molly Barnes
and UCLA coach Adam Krikorian, roommates in college at UCLA,
continue to remain close friends today, despite the fact that they
now coach for different universities.
