Former Chicana and Chicano studies Professor Adolfo Bermeo
announced his decision last month to resign his position as the
associate vice provost for student diversity and director of the
Academic Advancement Program.
After an $18 million renovation and many unexpected delays,
Glorya Kaufman Hall opened its doors to the public this quarter,
offering new classroom space, performance venues and lounges to
students and faculty on campus.
UCLA will soon become the first institution to host Occupational
Safety and Health Administration training courses for business

UCLA’s Southern California Education and Research Center
announced its partnership with the OSHA Training Institute at UC

International graduate students will once again have their own
group on campus as the International Graduate Student Association
begins re-establishing at UCLA.
Even though they currently make up about 16 percent of graduate
students, international students are underrepresented in many
activities and organizations on campus, organizers say.

experience, many fail to realize that these leaders are students
just like them, struggling to organize their lives and balance
their responsibilities.
The busy streets of Westwood can be an overwhelming experience
for any student new to the UCLA community.
In an effort to connect Westwood Village with UCLA students and
neighbors, the Local Government and Community Relations office
recently launched a Web site featuring all the businesses located

Staff and administrators continue to wait at UC Merced for their
pioneer class of students, but due to litigation, postponement of
the school’s opening and an uncooperative state budget, the
10th University of California campus is still in its preliminary
stages of building and will not house students until fall 2005, a
year later than this year’s proposed opening date.
