Pressed into duty as a high jumper against USC Saturday, Dave
Murphy did what almost no one expected. He excelled. Murphy, who
has competed solely in the pole vault the entire season, finished
second in the high jump with a personal best mark of 6 feet, 9.75
inches.

After a strong performance in last Saturday’s Stanford
Invitational Regatta, the UCLA women’s rowing team will look
to defend its title at the 29th Annual Miller Cup Regatta on
Saturday at Ballona Creek in Marina Del Rey.

The night was cold, and as the fans waited for the events to
unfold, the pile of wood at center stage lit up in gold. Surrounded
by an ocean of blue, the fans knew what to do.

Word on the street is that Title IX, since its inception, has
helped only women’s sports. As the UCLA men’s crew team
has shown, this is not always the case.
