Extending its season-best winning streak to nine games, the UCLA
women’s water polo team cruised past host UC Irvine 9-5
Thursday afternoon.

Day one of the Gaucho Invitational tournament went well for the
UCLA women’s water polo team.
Day two, however, did not.
Stanford freshman two-meter Christina Hewko scored with 10
seconds left in regulation, denying the No.
The No. 2 UCLA women’s water polo team (4-1, 1-0 MPSF)
will travel to Santa Barbara this weekend to participate in the
Gaucho Invitational. Last year, the Bruins were victorious in
the 16-team tournament, but much roster turnover in the
off-season combined with more league parody may make for a
difficult repeat.
Against USC, the Bruins had more penalty minutes than a naughty
school child, and when combined with a stifling Trojan defense, the
UCLA men’s hockey team was doomed to two straight losses,
11-4 and 9-3 Thursday and Friday, respectively.
It was just a matter of time before UCLA finally got into the
win column.
The UCLA men’s hockey team (2-6) registered its first two
wins of the season, sweeping both games Friday and Saturday against
Stanford in Palo Alto, 6-2 and 6-4, respectively, behind a strong
effort from myriad young players.
