There’s an old adage that says that to be the best at anything, one must work when no one else does.

The field for a tennis tournament is commonly referred to as a draw. In the case of the Los Angeles Countrywide Classic, that term is meant literally.

For the last year, I’ve devoted what might be considered an excessive amount of my time to the Daily Bruin.

Even though the deadline to declare for the NBA Draft has come and gone, the UCLA men’s basketball team saw one more departure on Wednesday.

They both waited patiently, then made their moves just as time was winding down.

A day after UCLA’s starting center and one of its starting guards declared for the NBA Draft, its starting power forward announced that he’d be joining them.

Kevin Love wore a suit and tie, smiled for the cameras and glad-handed the assembled media. Russell Westbrook wore a polo shirt, and said his piece shortly and succinctly.

Today’s the day.

The UCLA men’s basketball team met Monday to discuss its recently completed season and begin thinking about the offseason.
