The last few months have not been easy for the Bush
administration. Not much seems to be going right for our president
these days, and the things that have gone wrong went disastrously
wrong.

Ever since the recall election, Californians have been talking a
lot about all of the state’s problems.
We like to complain about the quality of service offered by our
public institutions ““ our public schools, health services and
the Department of Motor Vehicles.

People love to accuse the media of having biases. Liberal bias.
Conservative bias. Corporate bias. But these biases dim in
comparison to the media’s biggest problem ““ the great
profit motive.

In response to his trip to Israel over the weekend, the
Arab-American community criticized Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for
ignoring the Palestinian side of the conflict. In response to the
criticism, the governor added an additional stop on his trip to
visit with King Abdullah II in Jordan.

The past few weeks at UCLA have seen the annual pilgrimage of
thousands of college-bound high school juniors and seniors taking
tours and getting more information to help them decide on their
future alma mater.

As students get back into the swing of things for their spring
quarter classes, a battle over the heart and soul of the future of
the University of California is taking place in Sacramento right
now.

If you walked up Bruin Walk these past few days, there is a good
chance you ran into an army of signature gatherers trying to garner
support to get their measures on the November ballot.

As UCLA students return to campus for the start of spring
quarter, record-breaking gasoline prices are squeezing their
pocketbooks. (As if outlandishly high textbook prices and Governor
Schwarzenegger’s fee hikes weren’t enough of a burden
on students’ limited finances.)
Gas prices, which have risen to a record national average of
$1.80, have also sparked fierce rhetoric from President Bush and
Sen.

Now that John Kerry has nearly locked up the Democratic
nomination for president, the real fun is just beginning as he and
President Bush start down the long road of campaigning toward the
Nov.

One of the biggest complaints undergraduates have about UCLA is
the lack of parking. While not having a car can sometimes be a
little annoying, the limited parking situation for undergraduates
is actually very beneficial to both students and the campus as a
whole.
