The UCLA women’s basketball team had one more chance at this whole thing, one last crack to make the NCAA tournament.

Today at 2:15 p.m., the opening bell will sound on what the UCLA women’s basketball team hopes is a 10-round fight.

These were the words from coach Cori Close to the UCLA women’s basketball team after practice on Wednesday: “We have to have a championship mentality. It’s one and done.”

As the UCLA baseball team filed back into the clubhouse on Sunday afternoon, there was barely a face without a smile, no hand without a high five.

On Thursday, the UCLA women’s basketball team will host Arizona State in the John Wooden Center, the team’s second-to-last home game of the year.

On opening weekend, UCLA hosted Maryland, but despite their top-25 ranking and talented, experienced roster, the Bruins dropped two games out of three to the Terrapins.

For coach Cori Close, success or failure in the game of basketball comes down to a simple choice. Either you give everything needed to succeed, or you watch somebody else celebrate.

The UCLA women’s basketball team (12-10, 7-4 Pac-12) will head north to the Bay Area to take on Cal (17-6, 8-3 Pac-12) tonight.
