The University of California Board of Regents ended its three-day board meeting at UC San Francisco on Thursday with the much-anticipated appointment of U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano as the next UC president.

While University of California administrators and political leaders applauded Janet Napolitano’s nomination as the next UC president Friday, some have said her record on immigration reform would cause dissatisfaction in the UC community.
In preparation for a union strike that starts today, UCLA Housing Services has revised its dining schedule for two days. Students are also planning to participate in the strike out of solidarity for workers who are asking the University of California for higher pay.
This week’s planned strikes include a two-day strike by the the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3299 union, which represents patient care technical and service workers across the UC.
The governor releases a budget proposal every January, detailing plans for the following fiscal year. In May, the governor releases a “May Revise” that modifies the proposal based on economic feasibility or concerns from involved parties.
A union that represents patient care technical workers at the University of California announced on Tuesday that its members have voted to authorize a strike to protest ongoing negotiations regarding employee pay and pension changes with the University.
