Slaves in Africa and Brazil invented Capoeira as a way of hiding
martial arts from slave owners in the form of dance.
It has since evolved into an art form that utilizes flexibility,
strength and rhythm, in addition to its cultural expression and
exercise.
According to the UCLA recreation schedule, there is an
internationally famous recreational instructor teaching at
UCLA.
Mestre Boneco is one of the founders of Grupo Capoeira Brasil,
the largest renowned Capoeira group in the world, and director of
the Benção Brasil Cultural Center, a non-profit Brazilian
cultural center.
The pride has been restored to UCLA’s cross country
program.
Both the men’s and women’s teams competed in the
NCAA West Regional Cross Country Qualifiers at Stanford on Saturday
and returned redeemed and confident after an upset at the Pac-10
championships the week before.
PASADENA “”mdash; It was a new year, but the same old story at
the Brookside Country Club.
Stanford, ranked second in the nation, won the women’s
Pac-10 cross-country title for the seventh consecutive year; its
men’s team won for the third straight season.
Top men and women collegiate cross-country runners are scheduled
to run this Saturday in the 2002 Pacific-10 Conference
Championships. The meet, hosted by UCLA, will be held at the
Brookside Country Club in Pasadena, adjacent to the Rose Bowl.
