The Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA annually presents a selection of artists, ranging from musicians to comedians, to the UCLA community. This winter, the likes of dance companies, comedians and musicians from all over the world will grace the stage in Royce Hall.
Los Angeles is often the setting of Hollywood hopefuls trying to make it big in the film industry. “In a World…,” Lake Bell’s comedic first feature film, breaks away from this mold to show the viciously competitive, male-dominated world of voice-over acting, which is apparently a big deal.
American artist and furniture maker Richard Artschwager wanted to make something useless, so he created a sculpture.
“He didn’t mean ‘useless’ as in having no meaning or significance, but rather as in not having a practical function,” said Anne Ellegood, senior curator at the UCLA Hammer Museum.
Hundreds of tiny yellow dots illuminate Los Angeles’ sprawling streets and skyline as the sun sets. An outline of downtown and the city’s extensive freeways is visible against the darkening sky.
