With only one hurdle remaining at the Los Angeles Super Regional, No. 15 seed UCLA baseball (47-16, 22-8 Big Ten) cleared it with a 7-0 shutout of UTSA (47-15, 23-4 AAC) on Sunday at Jackie Robinson Stadium, sweeping the Roadrunners to advance to its first Men’s College World Series since 2013.
Big innings have been a theme for the Bruins all weekend.
And a five-run top of the fourth seemed to position UCLA in cruise control.
But no lead, no matter how daunting, is safe on the road to Omaha, Nebraska.
Not unless you have the pitching staff to protect it.
And with its bullpen tossing a shutout seventh, eighth and ninth, No.
The Bruins have proven they can come back all season.
In conference tournament pool play alone, UCLA was down two runs to Illinois on Tuesday and a run to Michigan on Wednesday before winning both games.
A blown save nearly cost the Bruins their Friday series opener.
But the bats stormed back for a walk-off victory.
On Saturday, the Bruins’ hitters stayed hot – giving the team’s pitching staff little to worry about – and the hurlers upheld their end of the bargain anyway.
It’s a risk putting all of your eggs into one basket – especially against a former Pac-12 rival.
And by the end of Easter Sunday, the Bruins had hatched just one win against the Ducks.
The Bruins let their opponent score first for the 22nd time this season Sunday – but for the 15th time this year, it didn’t matter.
A three-run Husky third was met with a three-run Bruin third.

Allowing just two runs in a game typically makes for a celebration in the clubhouse.
And entering their latest contest, the Bruins had won 57 of 68 games when their pitching staff allowed two runs.
Coming off its worst season since 2005, UCLA baseball (4-0) is undefeated to begin 2025. While the Bruins are next headed to Corpus Christi, Texas, for the Kleberg Bank Classic, they are just two weeks away from beginning conference action in their first season in the Big Ten.
