Two years after becoming a varsity sport again, the UCLA
women’s rowing team captured its first Pac-10 conference
title.
While the Bruins finished sixth overall last weekend, the novice
eight boat won its grand final by a four-second margin, capturing
the first UCLA rowing postseason title in over 10 years.
Nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine lakes will lay dormant in
Minnesota this weekend, but not Lake Phalen.
Instead, the lake will become a testing ground for the distance
the UCLA women’s rowing team has travelled since becoming a
varsity sport in 2002.
The UCLA women’s rowing team was able to redeem itself
Saturday at the Miller Cup in Ballona Creek, participating in all
four Grand Finals and winning two of them as it went on to capture
the regatta for the first time in over a decade.
