April 22, 2010 – The UCLA Camarades Ensemble performs its inaugural concert at 8 p.m. tonight. This is the first time the UCLA Music Department will have a string orchestra without a conductor. Ji Young An will play on the school’s legendary Stradivarius and is the soloist for the Mendelssohn Concerto in D minor. Bricks and Scones on Larchmont is home to doggy bowls, a mini library, an entire study room, and, well, scones. Students get a 10 percent discount at this new cafe that attracts UCLA students despite being outside of Westwood. In addition to having the standard coffee shop fare, it’s the ambiance at Bricks and Scones that has students giving it a second look.

World Arts & Cultures Masters of Fine Arts graduate students will be showcasing elements such as beatboxing, film and Vietnamese music alongside their dance pieces at the MFA Choreography Showcase concert this Friday. Allison Wyper, one of the choreographers, shares details about the concert. This Works in Progress Concert, titled “Uncovered,” will be held at Glorya Kaufman Dance Theater at 8 p.m. Feb. 26. The earthquake in Haiti has personally affected couture glove designer Numa Perrier. As a first generation Haitian American, her parents’ immediate families are those that are lost, those that are suffering and those that have been hit hard by the earthquake.
