It usually takes second-year English student Hieu Dao ten
minutes to drive from UCLA to the Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center
for her volunteer job.
But recently, on days when Westwood Boulevard and Veteran Avenue
saw anti-war protests, the commute from campus to the hospital took
Dao an entire hour.
Hold off on getting change for that spare dollar. If the
Undergraduate Students Association Council has its way, students
taking advantage of the BruinGo! program won’t have to pay a
single cent to continue riding the Big Blue Bus.
Ricardo Huicochea’s gaze was transfixed on Gordon
Parks’ portrait. Reading the caption, he learned Parks was
the founder of Essence magazine, a composer and a filmmaker who won
an Emmy Award in 1968 for his documentary, “Diary of a Harlem
Family.”
He also learned Parks received honorary degrees from 13
different institutions and received a notable book award from the
American Library Association.

When it comes to water conservation, UCLA takes two sides. While
the administration makes a conscious effort to retrofit facilities
with the latest in water and energy saving technologies, it seems
to fail in educating students about the importance of their role in
water conservation.
Anica McKesey had to hike up three flights of stairs to get to
her job in Kerckhoff Hall on Wednesday.
The elevator that usually takes McKesey to her office for the
African Student Union is closed for maintenance until Jan.
