In terms of rankings, Saturday night’s meet against No. 2
Utah was one of the most anticipated regular season meets for the
No. 3 Bruins.
With 14 championships between the two teams, it was clear that
the battle would be a close one.

Gymnast Kate Richardson, who will be the only senior on the UCLA
squad this season, is still healing from a non-displaced fractured
left tibia at the knee joint, which she suffered on Sept.

They’ve had their share of disappointment in this young
season, losing two one-goal games to lesser-tier opponents.
Still, when members of the men’s soccer team have been
faced with a difficult test against a dangerous opponent, the
Bruins have flourished.

The Bruin cross-country corps may just be a little shaky these
days, but if two standout runners have their way, UCLA will soon be
on top.

Sophomore Lindsey Vanden Eykel, commonly known as “L
Boogie” to her teammates and fans, retired from gymnastics
last week but will remain with the UCLA gymnastics team in other
capacities.

And the unofficial slogan for the 2005 UCLA men’s soccer
team is: Four down, good to go.
Stripped of four key contributors from last season, the
team’s expectations for 2005 were likely to be a little less
ambitious and a little more cautious this time around.

What was an intramural field scrimmage sounded more like a
battlefield skirmish.
There was an intensity in the air, not to mention yelling from
every mouth of the UCLA men’s soccer team on the mid-morning
practice field.

Despite tying No. 1-ranked and defending national champion
Indiana a little over a week ago in an exhibition match, the lineup
of the UCLA men’s soccer team is anything but settled.

Earlier this week, it looked as though there could be a dramatic
facelift to the coaching staff of the men’s and women’s
distance crews in the UCLA track and field program.

UCLA Bruins past and present represented the United States in
this year’s Track and Field World Championships held in
Helsinki, Finland, with what turned out to be mixed results.
