Letters of rejection are never easy to take. In 1995, however,
three independent filmmakers never received their Sundance
rejection letters. Unsure about their status in the prestigious
film festival, they booked hotels in Park City, Utah, and when they
were finally notified of their rejection, they decided to create
their own film festival and to “slam” Sundance.
Niels Mueller had nothing to do with his film being screened at
AFI FEST. After premiering at this year’s Cannes Film
Festival and securing nationwide release in January in addition to
a Los Angeles release in late December (just in time for Oscar
eligibility), “The Assassination of Richard Nixon” has
bigger fish to fry.

continual appeal to young adults.

inspire in its audiences this Halloween, thanks to a new twist on
the classic 1950s horror flick “Creature from the Black
Lagoon.”

While plastic dinosaurs, yodeling custard, and garage bands may
not seem like standard entertainment fare, Juliette Deinum, a UCLA
alumna and cofounder of the “World’s Smallest Film
Festival,” expects this new medium to explode in the United
States as it has already in Asia and Europe.
