With inexperience playing a major role in Friday night’s
loss to the Arizona Wildcats, UCLA gymnastics coach Valorie Kondos
Field couldn’t help but entertain thoughts of how different
the night’s outcome could have been if her depleted roster
had the benefit of a clean bill of health.
Despite a relief in their schedule combined with their perceived
growth from competing against No. 1 Georgia, a number of falls
during the first rotation of Friday night’s meet at Arizona
proved to be the Bruins’ undoing as they were upset
195.335-194.7 by the 14th-ranked Wildcats.
Friday’s meet against the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs will
pit two of the most successful gymnastics programs in the nation
against each other. The Bulldogs are the defending national
champions, and in the last nine years, the two teams have combined
for eight NCAA Championships.
