An apparent hate crime committed last week at the UCLA Medical
Center did not go unanswered by the surrounding community.
Representatives from the university, government agencies and
various organizations spoke at a press conference Friday to express
their solidarity and determination to apprehend the perpetrators of
the act.
After a long and contentious wait, Westwood is hoping a new
organization will work to promote business in the Village.
A consulting firm hired by the city council is working on the
shape of a new Business Improvement District for Westwood
Village.
On March 18, the Student Bar Association held a candlelight
vigil for third-year law student Peter Santos, who passed away
March 15. He was 28.
Elizabeth Cheadle, assistant dean of students for the Law
School, said Santos died of natural causes.
In the face of city authority, one Westwood merchant is taking
his plight to the people.
Kelly Aladdin, owner of Elysee Bakery and Cafe, started a
petition last month protesting the revocation of outdoor seating
permits for several Westwood restaurants and cafes, including his
own.
The Internet will soon breach another snail-mail stronghold.
Beginning March 10, the Financial Aid Office will stop sending
out paper financial aid notifications in the mail and begin using
an Internet-based system called eFAN.
