Kobe Johnson was – less than a year ago – a crosstown enemy for the Bruins.
But Saturday afternoon against the Nittany Lions, the senior guard proved more of a hero.
Charged by Johnson’s all-around production, UCLA men’s basketball (18-6, 9-4 Big Ten) extended its winning streak to seven with a 78-54 pummeling of Penn State (13-11, 3-10) at Pauley Pavilion.
Despite a bout of sickness two days before the game threatening to curtail some of UCLA’s most productive players, the Bruins eventually won.
“Me, as well as Aday (sophomore center Aday Mara), Will (junior forward William Kyle III) and Tyler (junior forward Tyler Bilodeau), we were all in bed the entire day, the first day of practice,” said junior guard Skyy Clark.

The Bruins’ trajectory since their No. 22 Week 1 ranking has utterly plummeted – undone by inconsistency and an offense stuck in neutral.
In its first game of the season as an unranked team, UCLA men’s basketball (11-6, 2-4 Big Ten) lost to Rutgers (9-8, 2-4) 75-68.
Pressure has not let up for the Bruins after breaking what had previously been touted as a curse.
After knocking off then-No. 14 Gonzaga last Saturday – fracturing an eight-year skid against the Bulldogs – No.
The road to success in college basketball gets bumpier as the season progresses.
On Sunday in Eugene, UCLA men’s basketball (7-1, 1-0 Big Ten) will take on its most daunting opponent of the season yet in No.
The departure of Bruin greats – namely Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Jaylen Clark – left a gaping void for a conspicuous offensive standout.
Several Bruins made their case to plug that hole Wednesday night.
Amid minutes from 11 different players and double-digit contributions from three different Bruins, UCLA men’s basketball (4-1) cruised to a 84-70 victory over Idaho State (2-4) on Wednesday.
Homecoming royalty was established Friday.
Instead of a crown, though, coach DeShaun Foster was awarded a different prize.
“It feels good. I got the game ball,” coach DeShaun Foster said after earning his first home win at his alma mater.
On the back of two road wins, UCLA football (3-5, 2-4 Big Ten) will be at the Rose Bowl on Friday night for its annual homecoming game, this time facing Iowa (6-3, 4-2) in what could be the Bruins’ first home victory.
