Our UCLA community prides itself on its commitment to environmental sustainability and inclusion. Both of these commitments, however, are being challenged by bus changes that will impact thousands of the university’s students, staff and faculty.
UCLA’s Graduate Students Association passed a unanimous resolution last week calling on the University of California “to develop a budget that does not rely on a major tuition and fee hike.” As the largest graduate student body in the UC, I hope our strong opposition sends a message that students should not have to bear this burden alone.

UC President Janet Napolitano proposed a plan last week to enact an up to 5 percent tuition increase annually for the next five years that will be felt across our student population, including undergraduate, graduate and professional students.

2011, Graduate Students Association leaders have all run uncontested, leaving
voters with no choice among candidates.
