The final conference road swing of the season appears to be the
most crucial one for UCLA.
With the prospect of making the NCAA Tournament dangling in
front of the Bruins, the dual possibility of either securing a
berth or falling off the bubble could hinge on the outcome of their
trip to the Bay Area.
Countries such as Armenia, Austria and Lebanon were represented
by a diverse gathering of graduate students at UCLA to share ideas
in Armenian studies.
Addressing a variety of aspects of Armenian culture, graduate
students presented their research in numerous related fields in an
all-day conference Friday.
Concerns have arisen about the substance of the international
development studies major ““ being referred to as a
“joke” and a “watered-down” major by one
professor ““ and future plans for the major are under
debate.
Professor Ya-Hong Xie led this quarter’s third Professor
in the Union series event ““ a student-faculty lunch and
discussion sponsored by the Associated Students of UCLA ““
Tuesday to discuss “The Exciting Field of Electronic
Materials.”
ASUCLA formed the weekly series in response to a proposed
Student Union Strategic Initiative allowing ASUCLA to sponsor
programs ““ some of the same programs the Undergraduate
Students Association Council has traditionally conducted.
Students and faculty are gearing up this weekend in preparation
for Islamic Awareness Week, scheduled to begin Monday.
Events will be put on by the Muslim Student Association to
promote understanding and to disperse common misconceptions of the
Islamic religion.
As the curtains close on the 13th week of the United Food and
Commercial Workers union strike on several major grocery stores,
some question whether anything positive can result from continuing
the seemingly endless strike.
The second most-frequented restaurant on campus will be shown
the door this summer unless it meets conditions set forth by the
Associated Students of UCLA to ensure the company is adhering to
the university’s code of labor conduct.
