UCLA hopes to continue with the momentum it gained after winning the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships almost two weeks ago as it vies for the national championship.
The UCLA women’s water polo team has not played in a tournament-style setting since February. This weekend, the team will have back-to-back games against No. 6 UC Irvine on Saturday and No. 7 LMU on Sunday, bringing back that tournament feel.
On a dreary and rainy Saturday afternoon while most students were huddled indoors, the UCLA women’s water polo team was full of energy as it hosted Arizona State in a conference game.
After being on the road for the last three weeks, two of which were tournament-style matchups, the Bruins are coming back home this weekend to take on San Jose State.
The UCLA women’s water polo team hasn’t had a home game since it played Cal Baptist three weeks ago. The road trip will continue into this weekend, but fortunately it will only have to take a short bus ride to downtown where it will face the USC Trojans.
The UCLA women’s water polo team definitely has reason to celebrate this weekend.
Not only did the team survive a full weekend of games, as they played a total of four games over two days at the UC Irvine Invitational, but they accomplished the task of beating the top-ranked team in the country by defeating Stanford 5-4 in the championship game of the tournament.
The Bruins had their work cut out for them as they faced four teams all ranked in the top 20.
