Here at UCLA we boast an NCAA-record 100 national championships and a laundry list of legends in virtually every sport. From 1984 until 2004, UCLA had more Olympic gold medal winners than all but four countries. So it’s safe to say that we know something here about athletic competition. But, since not all of us can be five-star recruits, UCLA also offers extensive and highly competitive intramural and club sports programs.
The weekend’s games were tales of two different teams: Friday’s Bruins, which delivered a high-octane offense with all-around contribution, and Saturday’s Bruins, which tried to play catch up after a less than stellar offensive performance early.

The No. 16 Bruins (21-6) found their rhythm after a full slate of wins at this weekend’s Long Beach State Invitational at Mayfair Park in Lakewood.
Both teams have an all-star pitcher. Both teams have found success at bat. Both teams are gaining momentum and coming into their own. And both teams have wins against Northwestern and losses to top-ranked and undefeated Tennessee.
Last season, the UCLA softball team entered the Women’s College World Series with one thing in mind: winning a national championship.
After breezing through Regional and Super-Regional play, the Bruins were in prime position to make a run at the title.
