UCLA’s Sigma Nu chapter told the university from 2023-26 that it had fundraised at least $100,000 each year – the highest amount reported among all Greek life chapters.

But this week, Sigma Nu alumni leadership backtracked the fraternity’s reported figures, claiming they have been inaccurate. In 2025-26, Sigma Nu only raised $950, leadership said.

“We regret the error and appreciate the chance to set the record straight,” said Brian Zirbel, the Sigma Nu Epsilon Pi Alumni Board vice president for advancement, in an emailed statement.

The numbers were included in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life’s annual community report, which outlines information about UCLA Greek life chapters’ standing, philanthropy and GPA. The data, excluding average GPA and conduct, is self-reported by each organization.

In 2022-23, Sigma Nu reported fundraising $19,873, according to the OFSL’s community reports. The chapter reported raising $256,000 and $175,000 in 2023-24 and 2024-25, respectively.

The original figures mistakenly included money raised by the Sigma Nu Alumni Scholarship Fund, which provides tuition grants to undergraduate fraternity members, in addition to the funds raised by the collegiate chapter since the OFSL started publicizing the community reports in 2022, Zirbel said in the statement.

“The same error carried over each year as reporting responsibility passed between undergraduate officers,” he said.

Sigma Nu and Interfraternity Council members did not respond to multiple requests for comment on the inaccurate fundraising figure.

Sigma Nu alumni and chapter leadership notified the OFSL about the erroneous submission in early October and provided an accurate figure Oct. 16, said Lindsey Goldstein, the OFSL director, in an emailed statement. OFSL updated the 2025-26 community report and added a section explaining the change, she added.

Goldstein did not answer specific questions about how the OFSL verifies the Greek life chapters’ reported data.

“When discrepancies are brought to our attention, we work with the chapters to clarify the information and make appropriate corrections to the report,” she said.

The $950 the chapter raised this year went to the Angel City Pit Bulls, a nonprofit dog rescue organization, Zirbel said.
