UCLA suspends campus chapters of Lambda Chi Alpha, Sigma Alpha Zeta for hazing

UCLA has suspended the campus chapters of Lambda Chi Alpha and Sigma Alpha Zeta for violating policies related to hazing, safety and alcohol, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life announced Tuesday.
The university suspended Sigma Alpha Zeta, a multicultural sorority, for one year through Aug. 7, 2027, said Lindsey Goldstein, director for the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, in a Tuesday email to fraternity and sorority members.
Lambda Chi Alpha, a fraternity which UCLA initially placed on interim suspension in November 2025, has been suspended for two years through July 17, 2028, she added. Before suspending the chapter in November 2025, UCLA put Lambda Chi Alpha on probation through Sept. 30, 2027, according to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life’s community report for the 2024-25 academic year.
Suspended student groups are excluded from University activities and privileges, and additional violations can lead to further disciplinary action, according to UCLA’s Student Group Conduct Code.
The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life and the Interfraternity Council will not recognize the chapters during the suspension, Goldstein said in the email. Sigma Alpha Zeta and Lambda Chi Alpha may apply for reestablishment after the suspensions end.
“UCLA takes allegations of hazing and other conduct that threatens the health and safety of our students seriously,” Goldstein said. “Every member of our community has a role in ensuring hazing is not part of any new member or aspirant experience.”
UCLA Media Relations, Goldstein, Sigma Alpha Zeta and Lambda Chi Alpha did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the suspensions.

Both chapters are required to meet additional conditions – which can include meeting with school advisors, implementing greater oversight of member processes and participating in designated educational programs – before they can be reestablished, Goldstein said in the email.
Goldstein also shared resources in the email, including a UCLA webpage about hazing prevention and reporting.
“OFSL remains committed to preventing hazing and helping chapters in identifying and eliminating concerning practices,” she said.
