LAPD received a report of two masked people breaking into a home on Westholme Avenue shortly after midnight Tuesday.

Multiple police vehicles responded to the break-in, which occurred less than three blocks from campus at 12:09 a.m.

Both suspects fled prior to LAPD’s arrival on the scene, said Kevin Terzes, an LAPD officer, in an emailed statement. The perpetrators were not listed as armed in an incident report, Terzes added in the statement.

UCPD did not respond to the incident, said Richard Mejia, the director of emergency communications and information for the Office of Campus and Community Safety, in an emailed statement. LAPD and UCPD share jurisdiction over incidents that occur on the Hilgard Avenue side of campus, Jeffrey Chobanian, the captain of UCPD’s operations bureau, said in an interview earlier this year.

The officers who responded to the incident completed a burglary report, Terzes said in the statement. He added that although it was classified as a hot prowl burglary – meaning someone else was inside the home during the break in – no injuries were reported.

Contributing reports by Maggie Konecky, metro editor.
