UCPD is investigating a reported rape that allegedly occurred Sunday on Landfair Avenue.
The incident took place at a fraternity located on the 600 block of Landfair Avenue, said Jeffrey Chobanian, the captain of UCPD’s operations bureau, in an emailed statement. He added that UCPD learned about the incident early Monday morning.
The alleged suspect is unaffiliated with UCLA, according to a Clery Timely Warning crime alert sent to the UCLA community. Chobanian said in the statement that “the incident appears to be isolated.”
The original alert also incorrectly stated that the incident occurred on the 600 block of Gayley Avenue. UCPD sent a corrected alert to the community around 40 minutes later.
UCPD said in the alert that they are still investigating the report and asked the UCLA community to contact them with potential information. It added in the alert that UCLA community members should remove themselves from situations in which they feel unsafe and support people who may be at risk of assault.
UCPD encouraged community members to use multiple resources – including its Evening Escort program, the Bruins Safe mobile app and the Campus Assault Resources and Education Program – in the alert. These resources provide escorts, location sharing services and support for community members who have experienced sexual assault or other forms of sexual violence, respectively, according to the alert.
“The UCLA Police Department is investigating the allegation as a criminal matter and is actively gathering information and evidence related to the report,” Chobanian said in his statement.
