Former associate head coach Gof Boyoko will serve as the next head coach of UCLA women’s soccer, UCLA Athletics announced Friday.

Boyoko – the program’s seventh head coach – was part of the coaching staff that led the Bruins to their second national championship in 2022, as well as Pac-12 and Big 10 titles in 2023 and 2024, respectively. The role will be Boyoko’s first collegiate head coaching position.

“I am so honored to have the privilege to lead this UCLA program that has truly been home for me the last four years,” Boyoko said in a Friday press release. “Being a Bruin and representing the four letters is special, and while I am proud of what we have built here, I’m also hungry and motivated to continue to improve this program in all facets.”

Boyoko came to UCLA after serving as the head coach and recruiting coordinator for UC Santa Barbara’s women’s soccer team from 2017-21. He also occupied the associate head coaching role at Santa Barbara City College from 2014-16.

Former head coach Margueritte Aozasa left UCLA for the University of Texas in November, following a disappointing season that marked the first time the Bruins failed to secure a conference or league title during her tenure.

Aozasa led UCLA women’s soccer to a national championship in 2022, becoming the first rookie head honcho and woman of color to do so. The United Soccer Coaches recognized Aozasa and then-assistant coach Boyoko – along with assistant coaches Molly Poletto and Chelsea Tudela – with the National Staff of the Year award that season.

UCLA earned a 67-13-9 record and a 33-5-6 conference record under Aozasa and Boyoko. The pair also coached 21 Bruins who went to professional leagues – domestically and internationally, according to the press release.

“Gof’s qualities as a leader really stood out throughout this process,” Erin Adkins, UCLA’s executive senior associate athletics director, said in the Friday press release. “He has a strong desire to develop student-athletes on and off the field within a team-first championship culture. His confidence and passion for this program will allow the UCLA Women’s Soccer program to elevate their already elite standards.”
