UCPD arrested a suspect who allegedly stabbed a person at the Chabad House at UCLA on Friday.

Jeffrey Chobanian, the acting captain of UCPD’s operations bureau, said in a written statement that the stabbing occurred during a “roommate dispute” in a common area of the Chabad House, which is located on Gayley Avenue across from the UCLA Medical Plaza.

UCPD determined the incident was not a hate crime, Chobanian said in the statement, although the situation is still being investigated. The Chabad House serves members of the UCLA Jewish community, according to its website

The victim was treated on-scene and then released, Chobanian said in the statement. He added in the statement that both the suspect and victim were unaffiliated with UCLA.

Around six UCPD vehicles were parked outside of the Chabad House on Friday afternoon, and parts of the sidewalk were blocked off with police tape.

Chabad House at UCLA declined a request for comment on the incident.
