UCPD is searching for a person who attempted to rob a UCLA employee outside of the Center for Health Sciences around 9:50 a.m. Monday.

The employee was on Westwood Boulevard when the suspect attempted to pull the employee’s cell phone out of their hand, according to a Clery Timely Warning crime alert sent Monday afternoon. The employee took their phone back and ran away, according to the alert.

According to the warning, the suspect briefly followed the employee before turning and walking toward Westwood Village.

As of 2 p.m., the incident is currently under investigation and no arrests have been made. In an emailed statement to the Daily Bruin, Jeff Chobanian, acting captain of the UCPD administrative bureau, said UCPD became aware of the incident around 15 minutes after it happened and will conduct interviews, collect evidence, use technology to review video footage and search for the suspect.

The suspect was reportedly a man in his early 20s, with short curly hair and a mole under his right eye, according to the alert. He was last seen carrying a blue moving blanket, according to the alert.

No injuries were reported and no vehicles were involved, according to the alert. The incident did not appear to be connected to any other crimes, Chobanian said in the statement.

Chobanian added in the statement that students who experience a robbery should stay calm, move to a safe location and call 911.

This incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information can call UCPD at 310-825-1491.
